Overworked,
Overtired & Under "joyed":
5 Steps to Mommy Sanity
by Chris Tobeck
I admit that these 5 little paragraphs aren’t part of any sacred rules indicating a problem-free, Zen-filled, ‘found-the-happy-place’ type of lifestyle. However, I hope that they may provide some positive insight towards a problem-free, Zen-filled, found-the-happy...you know where I’m going.
Oh what a dork I am, but really, Happy thoughts make a Happy mom, which make Happy children. Turn the pessimism off and think if it is really worth making a big deal out of. So the jerk cut you off on the road, So What? You most likely will never see them again. Why waste your energy on something so negative? Set a good example for your kids and…think happy thoughts!
Resting your body and mind can help give you the boost of energy your body needs. That includes, going to bed at a decent hour & winding down at least an hour or 2 before bed. Try to do the household chores in the daytime (or after work) in between lulls. Kids not giving you a break? Well, here’s step number three…
Does it seem like your kids are purposely getting into trouble? Are they desperately trying to get your attention? They may be thoroughly bored. Maybe they’re not getting enough attention, other than being told to behave? Give them something to do, break out the play dough, the tempura paint, let them go at it with stickers, glitter glue and construction paper. If it’s not stormy outside, go play with them in the yard or take a walk with them around the block or even to the park. Simple items like bubbles and sidewalk chalk work wonders. Your kids need an outlet, and it’s up to you to help direct and provide them with the appropriate essentials. Our children are not inconveniences; there are little people naturally curious and anxious to learn.
Do you often feel anxious, stressed, and carry a bit of tension? Between being a wife, mother, & multi-tasker, and trying to find time for yourself, it’s no surprise mom’s get so overworked and exhausted. Start your mornings with a nice, thorough stretch before even getting out of bed. Take the time to join a yoga class, or put on the earphones and draw up a bath. A spa day sounds fun too! This leads us to the last step…
Go ahead, be selfish. You know you do deserve it. There are so many ways for you to splurge for yourself! Go get your haircut at Artisans, from what I hear on the Group Page, it’s the best! Get a pedicure, or a 20 minute walk will help, a t.v. episode, Chapter from a book, article from a magazine, etc. are a few ways that can help you stay sane. Don’t forget to take your sanity breaks AWAY from the kids. Plus, there are so many clubs and events going on every month in LMC as well. Lastly, really take advantage of outside help so you can get away mentally and physically!
